Where can I find live music venues during my visit in May?

Question

I will be visiting in May and would like to know about bars or venues that offer live music performances.

May is actually a sweet spot because a lot of the smaller venues shift to outdoor courtyards and the crowds haven't fully hit yet. One spot nobody mentioned is Fonclea near the Vatican, on Via Crescenzio, live bands most nights and no cover if you're eating there, gets touristy but the music is decent. Also worth knowing that many places in Testaccio like Caffè Latino don't really announce lineups online, so the move is to just walk around Piazza Testaccio on a Thu or Fri and follow the sound. Shows usually kick off late, like 22 or 23, so don't show up at 8 expecting anything.

If you want something a bit more off the usual circuit, try the Monk in Pigneto on Via Giuseppe Mirri. They mix jazz and singer songwriter nights, and there's a courtyard where people hang out between sets, which is nice in May. Also check what's on at Casa del Jazz near Villa Borghese, it's a proper venue with a garden and the spring program usually has good stuff, but you'll want to book ahead since tickets go fast.

skip the big names and look at circolo degli artisti on via casilina, it's a members club so you pay like 5 euro for a year card at the door then shows are cheap or free. mostly jazz, funk, some world music. in may they usually move stuff outside too. also worth checking the program at pontificio collegio americano or the irish pubs around campo de fiori, tho those lean more cover band than anything original

for live music in may check out alcazar in trastevere, they do jazz & soul most nights and the garden bit is open by then. also keep an eye on fanfulla 101 in san lorenzo, more indie rock stuff, cover is usually 10 to 15 euro. if u want something more low key, big mama in trastevere is a classic for blues but get there early bc it fills up fast on weekends

Honestly I'd check the free paper at any bar, it's called Roma C'è or something.
