Does the Rome Visitors Tax Apply to Short-Term Rentals?

For those who have rented short-term accommodations in Rome, does the rental fee typically include the city's visitors tax, or is it charged separately? honestly most airbnb hosts in rome just bake the tassa di soggiorno into the nightly rate now, esp on the big platforms. but some smaller places still ask for it in cash on arrival, like 3 to 7 euro a person a night depending on the listing category. check your confirmation email carefully, if it says "city tax not included" then u pay separate.

depends where u stay tbh, hotels & b&bs collect it at checkin, but if ur in a registered short let the platform usually adds it as a separate line at payment. one thing nobody mentions, if the host never gives u a ricevuta for it they're probably pocketing it, so ask for one

the tax is per person per night and it maxes out after 10 nights, so if you're staying two weeks you only pay for the first ten. rates run about 4 to 10 euro depending on the star rating or listing category, and kids under 10 are exempt. worth knowing cause some hosts forget to mention the cap and you end up overpaying in cash at checkin.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
