I'm moving to Cairo for work in 2026 and will be based near Al Nasr Rd, so I'm trying to sort out the residency permit before I arrive. Which permit applies to a foreign employee, what documents does it require, and what commonly goes wrong at the Mogamma or passport office? Any recent experience would be useful.

Bring passport photos and photocopies of everything, plus your lease near Al Nasr Rd, since address proof stalls more applications than the medical does.

The employer usually handles the work permit side, so ask HR which category they're filing under before you worry about paperwork. Mogamma queues are worse early in the week, so try midweek if you can.
