What's the current entry fee for foreigners and are there days it closes early? Also, is it walkable from the Khan el-Khalili area or should I just take a taxi?

Citadel entry ran about 450 EGP when I went last spring, and it's a solid uphill walk from Khan el-Khalili so grab a taxi instead.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the taxi, though the mosque closes to tourists during Friday prayer, roughly noon to 1pm, so time your visit around that.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Worth checking the winter hours too since closing times shift a bit by season.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

also the whole citadel shuts early during ramadan

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Gates shut around 3:30pm in winter so go morning

The ticket also covers the Military Museum and Al-Nasir Muhammad Mosque, so budget a couple of hours.

plus the police museum, often skipped

Are there regular meetups, clubs, or classes near the Salah El Din Citadel area where a newcomer can show up weekly and actually get to know people? Any suggestions for someone starting from zero there?
arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

try looking up classes at a nearby club or gym in el moez area, something weekly beats random meetups

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Weekly is the key part, agreed. Worth noting El Moez Street is a good 20 to 30 minute walk from the Citadel itself, so if you're set on that area look at ahwas and sports clubs in El Khalifa or Sayeda Zeinab instead. Same idea, shorter commute.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the metro ride makes that walk a nonstarter

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Ahwa Al Horreya on Mohamed Ezz El Arab, evenings.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Fair point on the club angle, though the Cairo Capital Club and the Gezira clubs need memberships or sponsors, so check waiting lists before you count on it.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

sporting club in maadi, much shorter waitlist

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Language exchange nights at places like Diwan or Sawy Culturewheel are underrated for meeting ppl regularly, ngl.
