Where to live and what realtor service?

Question

Hey guys, been living in Tokyo for about 7 years now and know it pretty well, but just want to see what everyone else here thinks about this.

I'm planning to move sometime next year- earlier if I can, but no rush, just wanna find a great spot. I've been living in suginami for about 4 years now and I really like it, but am definitely open to some other spots. I work in Ginza and can use the Ginza/Hibiya/Marunouchi/Oedo lines to get there directly.

So, I'm pretty open to the location (though I have kind of wanted to live in Shimokitazawa) but I want to make sure I'm well connected. Being on one of the lines I take to work is great but, just in case that location changes, I want to stay flexible- so I'm interested in other spots that are just simply well connected to Tokyo in general. I'm also pretty determined to stay at this spot for a while and would like it to be quite comfy and decent for having people over/cooking etc., so I can sacrifice a bit of connectivity if there are areas where there tend to be better prices for nicer units, then I'm down. I'd also be willing to sacrifice a bit of connectivity if the surrounding areas has a lot to offer as far as food/groceries/entertainment etc.

Now, what realtor companies might be good? I already have some friends who work in real estate that I'm going to ask, but I'm just wondering what other foreigners usually use. Japanese isn't a problem (around n2 and used to work in real-estate, actually) but that doesn't solve the "foreigners not accepted" part lmao. I used balleggs before and they were good. Considering leopalace as well. Also my budget (incl management fee) is up to 100k for "the perfect spot" but would rather aim for 85-90k.

If anyone has any insight I'd be grateful!! Thanks in advance 🤙🏻

Also, some major bonuses would be soundproofing/instrument friendly (I produce edm/would love to have some small parties) and pet friendly 🙏🏻 don't think that matters here tho haha.

Tokyo's a beast to navigate for housing. Finding a place depends heavily on your budget and preferred area. For realtors, check out some of the bigger international firms, they'll often speak English and handle the complexities of the Japanese rental market. Good luck, you'll need it!
