Any pointers as to where I can buy a dumbphone? Nokia 6300/2720 etc? No lazada please

Hello all

Jumping on the dumphone bandwagon (bad timing I know, with all of the QR payments etc but eh here we are) any good places around Bangkok I can go looking for a dumbphone? This is something I prefer to buy in person so hence no online such as lazada please. I'm based around Saphan Kwai if there's anything close by. Any help would be much appreciated!

MBK is decent but honestly the stalls there are mostly tourists hunting vintage Nokias for the memes, so prices get jacked up. If you want a new one that actually works with Thai carriers, check the bigger Banana IT or JIB branches, they stock a few dumbphones in the back. The one at Central Ladprao had the 2720 last time I was there, and it's a straight shot on the MRT from Saphan Khwai.

Also worth a look is the old Pantip Plaza, though it's mostly laptops now. There's a small shop on the 3rd floor, near the escalator on the left, that does repair work and keeps a drawer of older Nokia models. They're not on display so you gotta ask, and they only take cash. Bring like 1500 to 2000 baht and you can walk out with something solid.

another spot nobody mentioned is the fone mart in the basement of union mall, it's just a couple bts stops from saphan khwai on the ha yaek lat phrao side. most stalls are all modern stuff but there's one old guy near the back corner, past the screen repair shops, who keeps a glass case of nokias. he had the 6300 and a few 3310s last month, prices are fair like 1200 to 1500 baht, no haggling really. cash only and he closes early around 6pm, so go on a weekday afternoon

also if you wanna go full old school, the weekend market at chatuchak has a section 3 soi 4 with a couple of stalls selling used phones, but that's hit or miss and mostly junk. better to hit union mall first since it's closer

Since you're in Saphan Khwai, the quickest non-mall option is actually the little market tucked behind Soi Ari, about 10 minutes on the BTS. There's a row of secondhand stalls near the soi 4 entrance that cater to local workers, and one guy has a box of old Nokias under his table, not on display. He had a 6300 last week for around 900 baht, though the keypad was a bit worn, so check that before paying.

If you want a new one with warranty, the TrueMove shop inside the Big C on Ratchadaphisek, near the Lat Phrao intersection, stocks a few dumbphones in their back cabinet. They don't advertise them, but if you ask for "the old phone for grandma" they'll pull out a couple of models, usually around 1200 baht. It's a straight MRT ride from Saphan Khwai to Phra Ram 9, then a short walk, and they take cards which is handy.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet, the Nokia service center at the Siam Paragon basement has demo units of the 2720 you can actually handle, even if they don't sell them there. Worth a stop just to test the buttons and weight before you commit, since a lot of these stalls won't let you fiddle much. If you like it, you can walk over to the old Siam Square arc

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
