🍜 Street Food Savings
Street food is your best friend in Bangkok, with meals costing 40-80 baht at stalls like those on Yaowarat Road in Chinatown. Skip tourist-heavy areas and eat where locals queue; pad thai and som tam are filling and cheap.

πŸš‡ Getting Around Cheaply
Use the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway for 16-59 baht per trip, but avoid taxis during rush hour. For short distances, take a motorcycle taxi for 10-20 baht or a public boat on the Chao Phraya River for 15-30 baht.

🏨 Budget Accommodation
Hostels in Khao San Road start at 300 baht per night, while guesthouses in Banglamphu offer private rooms for 600-1000 baht. Book on Agoda or Booking.com for last-minute deals, and consider staying near a BTS station to save on transport.

πŸ›οΈ Free Attractions
Visit the Grand Palace for 500 baht, but skip it if you're on a tight budget and explore free temples like Wat Arun (100 baht) or the giant Buddha at Wat Paknam. Lumpini Park offers free entry and a chance to see monitor lizards, while the Chatuchak Weekend Market is free to wander.

πŸ’‘ Local Money-Saving Tricks
Locals eat at food courts in malls like Terminal 21 or MBK Center, where dishes cost 35-60 baht. Use the Rabbit card for BTS to save on single-ticket queues, and always drink tap water from filtered dispensers at 1 baht per liter.

πŸ›οΈ Shopping on a Budget
Bargain at markets like Chatuchak or Pratunam, but start at half the asking price. For souvenirs, head to the Bo Bae Market for wholesale clothing, or the Khlong Toei Market for fresh produce at local prices.

πŸŒƒ Evening Entertainment
Watch a free Muay Thai match at the Rajadamnern Stadium on certain nights, or enjoy the rooftop views from the Sky Bar at Lebua without ordering a drink. Asiatique the Riverfront offers free entry and a night market atmosphere.

πŸ’΅ Daily Budget Breakdown
A realistic daily budget for a backpacker is 800-1200 baht: 300 for dorm accommodation, 200 for three street food meals, 100 for transport, and 200-600 for attractions. For a mid-range traveler, budget 1500-2500 baht per day including a private room and occasional sit-down meals.

honestly this is a solid guide, only thing id add is that the rabbit card thing is legit a game changer. the bts queues at places like siam or asok during rush hour can be insane, like 10-15 mins just to buy a ticket. having the card saves u that and u can top up at any station

also for the grand palace tip i agree skip it if ur tight on cash. but wat arun is worth the 100 baht, esp if u go late afternoon when the sun hits it just right. the light makes the porcelain tiles glow and its way less crowded than the palace

one thing i noticed missing is the grab food delivery scene. honestly if u order thai food on grab u can get meals for like 50-80 baht delivered to ur hostel, no need to even go out. just use the "restaurant" filter and look for places with 4.5+ stars and under 100 reviews, those are hidden gems

and for the daily budget 800-1200 baht is doable but ngl if u want a private room in banglamphu ur looking at more like 800-1000 just for that. i stayed at a place called the house on khao san road last year and paid 900 for a single with ac and shared bathroom, that was decent

solid guide, covers the basics well. one thing i'd add for the transport section is the khlong saen saep canal boats. they're like 10-20 baht for most trips and cut right through the city from pratunam to rama 9 area. not as touristy as the chao phraya boats and way faster than a taxi if ur going east-west

for the budget accommodation tip, khao san road hostels are cheap but loud as hell until 2am. if u want sleep, try a guesthouse on one of the sois off rambuttri road instead. same price range but way quieter and still a 5 min walk to the action

also the or tor kor market mention from another reply is legit, it's right next to chatuchak and the fruit there is insane quality. mangoes and pomelo are half the price of what u pay in tourist areas, and u can get a whole box of cut fruit for 40 baht. great for breakfast or a snack

One thing to know about the street food scene: look for stalls that specialize in just one or two dishes. The ones on Yaowarat Road that only sell khao moo daeng or roast duck are usually run by families who have been doing it for decades, and the quality shows. That's where you'll get the best bang for your 50-60 baht.

For the free Muay Thai tip, it's worth checking the Rajadamnern schedule because the "free" nights are usually for the lower-card fights starting around 6pm. The main events cost money, but you can still catch a few rounds for nothing and then head to a nearby street stall for grilled pork skewers afterward.

The daily budget of 800-1200 baht is tight but realistic if you stick to 7-Eleven for breakfast. Their toasted ham and cheese sandwiches with a bottle of cha yen come to about 45 baht total, which frees up more of your budget for a proper dinner somewhere like the Or Tor Kor Market, where the fruit is incredible and portions are generous.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
