3 Days in Bangkok: Itinerary 2026

πŸ“ Day 1: Grand Palace & Riverside
Start your morning at the Grand Palace (Na Phra Lan Road, open 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, 500 THB). Allow 2 hours to explore the temple complex and the Emerald Buddha. Then walk 10 minutes to Wat Pho (2 Sanam Chai Road, 300 THB) for the reclining Buddha and a traditional Thai massage school.

πŸ“ Day 1: Afternoon Along the Chao Phraya
Take a 15-minute ferry from Tha Tien pier to Wat Arun (Arun Amarin Road, 100 THB) for stunning riverside views. Afterward, hop on the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat (60 THB for a day pass) to Asiatique The Riverfront (Charoen Krung Road, free entry, shops open from 4 PM). Enjoy dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants.

πŸ›οΈ Day 2: Chatuchak Weekend Market & Sukhumvit
If it's a weekend, spend the morning at Chatuchak Market (Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, 6 AM to 6 PM, free entry). Take the BTS Skytrain to Mo Chit station (15 minutes from Siam). For lunch, try the famous khao man gai at the market's Section 4. In the afternoon, head to Sukhumvit for shopping at Terminal 21 (Sukhumvit Road, open 10 AM to 10 PM).

πŸ“ Day 2: Evening in Thonglor & Ekkamai
Explore the trendy Thonglor and Ekkamai neighborhoods, accessible via BTS Thong Lo station. Visit The Commons (335 Thonglor 17, a hip food hall open until midnight) for dinner. End the night at a rooftop bar like Octave Rooftop Lounge (Sukhumvit Soi 57, open 5 PM to 1 AM) for skyline views.

πŸ“ Day 3: Chinatown & Old City Walk
Start at Yaowarat Road in Chinatown (accessible via MRT Wat Mangkon station). Explore the gold shops and street food stalls; try the roasted duck at Nai Ek Roll Noodles (442 Yaowarat Road, 50 THB). Then walk 20 minutes to the Golden Mount (Wat Saket, Boriphat Road, 100 THB) for a panoramic view of the old city.

πŸ“ Day 3: Afternoon at Jim Thompson House
Take a 15-minute taxi from the Golden Mount to Jim Thompson House (6 Soi Kasem San 2, Rama I Road, 200 THB, open 10 AM to 6 PM). This museum showcases traditional Thai architecture and silk. Afterward, walk 5 minutes to Siam Square for shopping at Siam Paragon (Rama I Road, open 10 AM to 10 PM).

πŸš‡ Getting Around Bangkok
Use the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway to avoid traffic; a single trip costs 16-59 THB. For river routes, the Chao Phraya Express Boat (15-40 THB) is efficient. Taxis start at 35 THB but can be slow during rush hour (7-9 AM and 5-7 PM). Always insist on the meter or use ride-hailing apps like Grab.

🏘️ Local Tips for 2026
Carry cash for street food and small shops, as many don't accept cards. Dress modestly when visiting temples (cover shoulders and knees). Stay hydrated with bottled water (7-10 THB from 7-Eleven). Book popular attractions like the Grand Palace online in advance to skip queues, especially during peak season (November to February).

yeah the guide's solid but honestly i'd swap one of those rooftop bars for a river cruise dinner instead. took the chaophraya cruise last year and it was like 800 baht for a buffet with live music, way more chill than octave which gets packed with tourists. the breeze off the river at night is unbeatable, plus you see wat arun lit up from the water. just book it through your hotel or klook a day before.

nice guide, covers the main spots well. one thing i'd add is that the bts and mrt have different ticketing systems and you'll need coins or a rabbit card for the bts, the mrt takes the new emv contactless cards now which is handy. also the grand palace queue can be 30 mins even with online tickets in peak season, bring a hat.

for day 2, if you're at chatuchak on a weekend, go deeper into the sections past the main walking street. section 26 has the vintage furniture and oddball antiques that most tourists miss, and the khao man gai in section 4 is solid but the one in section 15 near the clock tower has better crispy pork belly. just look for the stalls with the longest queue of local shoppers.

the river cruise tip someone else mentioned is a good call, but the cheaper option is the khlong boat from sathorn pier to siam, it's like 15 baht and cuts through the canal right past the old city walls. just sit in the middle unless you want a face full of canal water. overall you'll have a great trip, bangkok's easy to navigate once you get the hang of the skytrain.

honestly i'd skip asiatique on day 1 and stay on the thonburi side after wat arun instead. there's a little soi called soi wat kanlaya right near the pier with a night market that's 90% locals and 10% tourists, the grilled pork skewers there are like 10 baht each and way better than the overpriced stuff at asiatique. plus you get to watch the ferries go by from a plastic stool like everyone else.

for the grand palace, if you're there by 8:30 you'll beat the tour bus crowds but the heat gets brutal by 10am. there's a shaded walkway between the palace and wat pho on sanam chai road with a lady selling fresh sugarcane juice for 15 baht, grab one before you go into wat pho. also the thai massage school at wat pho is legit but book ahead or you'll wait an hour, they do 30 minute foot massages for like 250 baht which is a steal compared to the spas in sukhumvit.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
