Hello

I have registered for US visa and they have given me payment details.

But it says Bank of America Bangkok Branch however in my Bangkok Bank app it does not show up.

How to make the payment for the Visa? I don't want to go to Krungshri bank to put cash as I am not in Thailand right now.

paypal is the move if ur profile shows it, most people miss that toggle. i paid my b1/b2 from tokyo that way, no swift fees, no waiting for the bank to match anything.

if it's not there, another thing nobody mentioned: u can pay via the embassy's official partner site, not the visa portal. there's a separate link on the us embassy bangkok site under "visa fees" that takes u to a thai payment gateway, works with international cards. i think it's operated by counter service or similar, but it's legit.

worst case, ur home bank's swift transfer is fine but use the exact beneficiary name from the slip, not the translated version. and keep the receipt forever, the embassy's matching system is janky, i had to email them a pdf of my transfer last time. cleared in 4 days after that.

also the fee is 7,040 baht now, not 6,900, so don't underpay or they'll bounce it back. check the embassy site before u send anything.

yeah so the payment slip is confusing but it's basically a two step thing. the "bank of america bangkok branch" is just their local correspondent bank for the us treasury account. you don't need to actually go anywhere. if ur outside thailand rn, the cleanest way is to use your home bank to do a SWIFT transfer to the thai bank account they listed, but make sure u include that UID number in the reference field. i've seen people mess this up and the embassy takes weeks to match it.

alternatively, if u have a thai friend or family member, they can just pay via counter service at any krungsri or kbank branch with the slip, takes 5 minutes. the fee is 6,900 baht for most categories, plus maybe 200 baht for their service. but if u really can't do that, another trick is to use a thai digital wallet app like truewallet or airpay if u have one linked, they sometimes have a "government services" tab that accepts visa fee payments. not all versions have it though, so check if ur app is updated.

the key thing is never use the bangkok bank app for this, it won't show up because it's not a standard biller. u need to search for "us visa" under the "government" or "embassy" category, and if that's missing, ur app version might be older. worst case,

honestly you might be overthinking this. the "Bank of America" in the payment slip is just the beneficiary name on their US side, not a local branch. the actual payment goes through a Thai bank transfer, usually to a local USD account. if your Bangkok Bank app doesn't show it, try searching for "US Visa" or the reference number without the dashes. or check if your app has a "pay to government" section, sometimes it's tucked under "bills" not "transfers".

if that fails, you can pay from any Thai bank via SWIFT transfer, just use the beneficiary details on the slip. the fee is around 6,900 THB for most categories. your bank will charge a small fee for the international transfer, maybe 300-500 THB. tbh paying from abroad is tricky because the system expects a local Thai bank account, but a SWIFT from your overseas bank with the right code (they give you a UID number) works too. just make sure you enter your visa application ID in the payment reference, otherwise they can't match it. done it twice, never stepped foot in a bank.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
