Motomachi Madness?

Question

I went to this place, this supermarket, expecting the usual, you know? But wow, the sheer variety of perfectly packaged seaweed snacks alone nearly broke my brain. I spent a good half hour just staring at them. Seriously, dozens of kinds. My question is: what's the *weirdest* thing they sell there? I need to know for future planning. My stomach might not handle it, but my curiosity demands an answer.

I'd say the frozen section is where Motomachi really gets strange. There's a brand that makes ice cream in flavors like grilled corn on the cob and squid ink, and they sit right next to the standard matcha and vanilla. The squid ink one is black and tastes more like savory seafood than dessert, which is a trip. If you want something shelf stable, look for the cans of "fruit wine" that are actually just fizzy juice with 0% alcohol, but they're shaped like mini wine bottles and sold near the registers like candy.

honestly the weirdest thing i've found there are these little cans of sweet corn soup that you're supposed to drink hot from a vending machine but they sell them cold on the shelf. it's just unsettling. also the dried squid jerky in the snack aisle is pretty wild, it's chewy and salty and tastes like the ocean in a way that feels wrong for a supermarket snack. i'd say skip the alien plums and grab a bag of the shrimp chips instead, way more approachable

The weirdest thing I've seen at Motomachi is a jar of natto flavored potato chips. Natto is already a divisive food, those fermented soybeans with the stringy texture, but turning it into a chip is a whole other level of commitment. I bought a bag out of curiosity and it's exactly what you'd expect, that funky, earthy natto smell mixed with fried potato. They also stock these tiny cans of coffee jelly that come with a plastic spoon taped to the side, which isn't weird until you realize it's a dessert you eat standing up in the aisle.

yeah the weirdest thing i've come across is in the frozen aisle near the back, a brand that does these "ice cream bars" but they're actually frozen yakisoba noodles coated in chocolate. it's not good, the textures fight each other, but you have to respect the hustle. also they sell whole bags of dried baby sardines that you eat like chips, head and all, which is a lot even for me

ngl the weirdest thing i've seen there is a drink called "tuna cola" in the beverage aisle near the back. it's exactly what it sounds like, carbonated fish flavor. i bought one out of morbid curiosity and it's like drinking a tuna sandwich that went flat. also they have these little packets of freeze dried natto that you rehydrate yourself, which feels like a prank more than food. stick to the seaweed, it's safer
