Best early coffee near Daybreak Cafe in Tokyo 2026
The pour over set is still on before 9, though I'd skip the conbini can and get a drip at Kissa Maruyama on the back street instead.
Maruyama's drip is solid but they don't open till 8:30, so for a true early cup you're stuck waiting or settling.
good luck getting a seat there before 9 tho, it's like six stools and the regulars camp out
six stools is right but the campers are mostly gone by 8:15, it's that 7:30 to 8 window that's brutal. try after the first train crowd clears out & u can usually slide in
8:30 is the problem with that plan though, most people are already at work by then. i'd say the 7-eleven on the corner does a better job than it gets credit for, hot drip for 150 yen and no wait.
If the line's already round the corner, there's a tiny standing bar two blocks toward the station doing 300 yen hand drips from 6:30. Tbh I prefer it anyway, quieter and the owner roasts his own beans. Weekends I'm in and out before Daybreak even opens.
That standing bar must be Tachinomi Kofe, the owner's beans are Ethiopian mostly and he closes at 10 sharp so don't roll in late.
he's also cash only, no cards, and the register shuts before last call so bring yen.
yeah the 6:30 thing is why i go, but he only pulls espresso-based till 7 so dont expect a hand drip that early
honestly 7am is still late for me, i'm usually out by 5:30 and the only thing open is Komeda's, which is fine if u just want a strong kohi and a seat. there's also a gas station vending machine near the intersection that does hot canned coffee for 120 yen, sounds grim but it hits at that hour.

the crown's fine but i usually walk down to the hub in shibuya for a proper pint, cheaper too. for cards, most places here take visa but amex gets turned down a lot, so i'd carry a visa backup.
Hub's a chain though, Popeye in Ryogoku pours better.
Popeye's craft list changes monthly, worth the trip.
Try Mugito in Ebisu if you want a quieter pint, it's a short ride from there. For cards, mine gets declined too so I just bring cash now.
cash is king there, 7-Eleven ATM takes foreign cards
Worth adding that the ATM at the Family Mart on Meiji-dori handles foreign cards later than most, up to 11pm.
Second this, cash saves the hassle.
Visa backup works, mine's Mastercard and it gets refused half teh time.
