Tokyo Sunday Market 2026: What to Expect

fmd_goodSunday Market · #food #tokyo #market
I'm visiting Tokyo in 2026 and heard the Sunday markets are worth checking out. What can I expect to find there, and are they more of a food thing or a flea market vibe? Takahata Fudoson's monthly tekiichi on the 28th is smaller but way less picked over, mostly old tools and dishware from local families.

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

yeah the 28th is also when the daruma stalls show up

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image yuinaka local ·

Starts around 8am, gone by early afternoon.

arrow_drop_up 10 arrow_drop_down

the 28th also pulls a crowd for the hagoita stalls in december, rest of the year it's mostly grandmas clearing out the tansu

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

good call on the smaller crowd, though the good tansu stuff goes in the first hour so being there before the 9am bell helps

That tekiichi is a solid tip. What gets me there is the food stalls near the temple steps, cheap soba and grilled stuff, so you can make a morning of it. Vendors pack up by early afternoon so don't roll in late.

Depends which market you mean: Oedo Antique Market at Yoyogi is proper antiques, while Sun Road in Kichijoji is food and knick-knacks.

Image yuinaka local ·

Fair, though the real sleeper is the shrine flea markets like Hanazono Jinja on the third Sunday, mostly locals digging through old kimonos and ceramics.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image yuinaka local ·

honestly the ones by the river are more my speed, mostly food stalls and cheap vintage clothes. bring cash cuz half teh vendors won't take cards. go early before noon or it gets picked over

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Cash is the big one, most stalls are still yaku-nin only.

Charcoal Yard Tokyo grill worth the trip in 2026?

Spring weekends, aim for a 5pm slot.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on the early slot. I'd push for 4:30 if they'll take it, since the room goes loud and smoky by six and the last seating gets rushed. The kitchen also runs out of the thick-cut tongue first, so earlier is safer.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Charcoal Yard's set runs about 12,000 yen for two now, and honestly the walk from Ebisu Station is the real cost, so book ahead.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image melisande local ·

yeah the walk up that hill from the station is no joke, especially with the slope. fwiw the 12k figure tracks, but add a drink or two each and you're closer to 15k. book two weeks out, weekends fill fast.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

tbh the booking bit matters more than the walk. we tried a week ahead in spring and every slot was gone, so call way earlier than u think. also check if they take walk ins at open, that saved us once.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Walk ins at open only work on weekdays, and even then they cap them at a couple of tables.

theres also a bus from the west exit that skips that climb for 210 yen, worth knowing if its raining

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Good tip, though it only runs until around 9pm so it's no use for the trip back. I usually just walk down since it's downhill anyway.
