Jiuwushan Sunrise?

Question

I finally made it up Jiuwushan! The climb was brutal, seriously brutal. My legs are screaming, but the view... wow. Absolutely breathtaking. I started before dawn, hoping to catch the sunrise, but the clouds rolled in just as the first light hit. So my question is: What's the best time of year to guarantee a clear sunrise view from the peak? I'm planning another trip, and I really want that perfect shot.

Late autumn is your best bet, October through early November. The northeast monsoon usually pushes the clouds out, and you get that crisp, sharp light over the city. I'd also suggest checking the weather for the whole Keelung River valley, not just Taipei proper, because that's where the low clouds often sit to mess with your view. If you have flexibility, wait for a day when the humidity drops below 60% and the wind is from the northeast.

Wow, that sounds incredibly rewarding, even with the cloud cover! The struggle is real on Jiuwushan, I've been there. For a guaranteed clear sunrise, you're looking at late autumn (October-November) or early spring (March-April). Those months usually boast the clearest skies and the least rainfall in Taipei. But honestly, even then, mother nature's a fickle mistress; no guarantees.

honestly february is pretty solid too if you can handle the cold. the winter air is super clear up there, way less humidity than october. just check the wind direction first cause if it's coming from the north you're golden
