3 Days in Taipei: Itinerary 2026

🗺️ Day 1: Ximending & Historic Core
Start your morning at Ximending, Taipei's vibrant shopping district. Grab a breakfast of scallion pancakes at Yong He Soy Milk (No. 102, Section 2, Zhongxiao East Road) around 8 AM. Then walk to the historic Red House Theater (No. 10, Chengdu Road) for a quick photo stop before it gets crowded.

🏛️ Afternoon: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
Take the MRT to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall station (Green Line). Explore the vast Liberty Square, the National Theater, and the memorial hall itself, which is open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM. The changing of the guard happens on the hour, so plan to be there at the top of the hour.

🍜 Evening: Ningxia Night Market
Head to Ningxia Night Market (No. 58, Ningxia Road) around 6 PM for dinner. It's smaller than Shilin but offers excellent local street food like oyster omelets and pepper buns. Expect to spend about NT$300-500 per person for a filling meal.

🏯 Day 2: Beitou Hot Springs & Tamsui
Take the MRT Red Line to Beitou station (about 40 minutes from Taipei Main Station). Visit the Beitou Hot Spring Museum (open 9 AM-5 PM, closed Mondays) and the public outdoor hot spring pools at Millennium Hot Spring (NT$80-150). Then continue to Tamsui for a sunset walk along the waterfront.

🎡 Afternoon: Tamsui Old Street & Fisherman's Wharf
Stroll Tamsui Old Street for snacks like a-gei (fried tofu stuffed with vermicelli) and iron eggs. Rent a bike or take a ferry to Fisherman's Wharf to see the Lover's Bridge. The ferry costs NT$50 one way and runs until about 8 PM.

🌃 Evening: Shilin Night Market
Return to Taipei and head to Shilin Night Market (No. 101, Jihe Road) for dinner. It's one of the largest night markets, famous for fried chicken cutlets and bubble tea. Arrive by 7 PM to avoid the worst crowds, and budget NT$400-600 for a full food crawl.

⛰️ Day 3: Elephant Mountain & Taipei 101
Start early with a hike up Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan) for panoramic views of Taipei 101. The trailhead is a 5-minute walk from Xiangshan MRT station (Red Line). The hike takes about 20-30 minutes, and it's best to go before 9 AM to avoid heat and crowds.

🛍️ Afternoon: Daan District & Yongkang Street
Take the MRT to Daan Park (Green Line) for a relaxing stroll, then walk to Yongkang Street for lunch. Try the famous Din Tai Fung (No. 2, Lane 181, Section 2, Xinyi Road) for xiaolongbao, but expect a 30-minute wait. Alternatively, visit the nearby Huashan 1914 Creative Park for art and shopping.

🚇 Getting Around & Transport Tips
Taipei's MRT is efficient and affordable, with single-journey tickets costing NT$20-65. Buy an EasyCard at any station for convenience; it works on MRT, buses, and even at convenience stores. Taxis are metered and start at NT$70, but Uber is also widely available.

tbh this is a really well thought out plan, you've clearly been here before or done your homework. one thing i'd swap is day 2's night market - shilin is iconic but it's gotten super touristy and the crowds can be a nightmare by 8pm. if you're already in tamsui for sunset, just stay there and eat at the waterfront stalls or the little restaurants on the old street instead. the fried squid and steamed buns from the vendors near the ferry terminal are way better than shilin's fried chicken imo, and you'll save yourself the mrt ride back

also for day 1, the red house is cool but don't spend more than 10 minutes there unless you're into the weekend flea market. the real gem in ximending is the tiny alley behind it with all the vintage vinyl shops and indie clothing stores, way more interesting than the main drag

and a practical thing - your easycard tip is good but you can also load it at 7-eleven or family mart machines, which is faster than the mrt counters sometimes. the first time i did this i wasted 20 minutes in line at taipei main station when i could've just used the machine outside

honestly this is a solid itinerary, nice work. one thing i'd add is that for day 1, instead of heading straight to ningxia from cks memorial hall, you could walk through the botanical garden first. it's right next to the memorial hall and way less crowded, plus it connects nicely to the nanmen market if you want a quick snack before dinner.

for day 3, if din tai fung's wait is too long, try the original xiaolongbao spot on yongkang street itself - it's called gao ji and it's a few doors down from the main drag. no lines and honestly the soup dumplings are just as good, maybe better for half the price. also, huashan is great but if you have time, songshan creative park is quieter and has better coffee shops imo.

one more thing - your easycard tip is spot on but you can also use it at youbike stations. taipei's bikeshare is super convenient for short trips, like getting from daan park to yongkang street or around ximending. just tap and go, first 30 mins are cheap.

solid plan, covers a lot of ground without feeling too rushed. for day 1, if you're at yong he soy milk, try the salty soy milk instead of the sweet one, it's a thicker savory soup with pickled veggies and wonton strips, way more interesting than the standard breakfast. also, the red house weekend market is hit or miss but on weekday mornings the cafe inside called café 516 has good coffee and almost no one there

for day 3, skipping elephant mountain entirely and going to huayuan hotel rooftop bar around sunset is a good alternative, you get a similar view without the hike and the cocktails are like nt$300-400, just buy a drink and you can stay as long as you want. the view of taipei 101 from there is basically the same as from the mountain

one thing the guide missed is that the easycard can also be used to pay at most convenience stores and some smaller food stalls, not just transport. saves you from carrying too much cash

Seeking recommendations for well-managed tutoring centers in Shilin, Dazhi, or Neihu areas

I am looking for tutoring centers in the Shilin, Dazhi, or Neihu districts that can assist with work visa sponsorship. Ideally, I prefer locations near Jiannan Road in Neihu, but I am also open to options in Huzhou if the center is well-managed. Areas near Shilin MRT station are also convenient for me. I would appreciate recommendations for centers with good management, reasonable expectations, stable working hours, and a positive environment for teachers. Any recent insights or experiences would be very helpful as I prepare for my return.

the Shilin MRT area near Zhongzheng Rd has a cluster of smaller schools that tend to be pretty stable, but a lot of them want you to do a demo before they'll talk visa. bring your cert and a sample lesson plan, it speeds up teh whole thing. fwiw early May is a good time to apply since some teachers leave before summer and centers are scrambling. one tip: ask upfront whether the work permit is under their own buxiban registration, cos some places near Dazhi run you through a third party and that gets messy.

Shilin MRT area is tricky because the rent is high so a lot of teh centers there run tight margins and cut teacher hours when enrollment dips. if you're set on that area try the lanes off Zhongzheng Rd behind the station, smaller outfits there tend to be owner operated and more upfront about contracts. also ask straight up in the interview whether they've sponsored a foreign teacher before, some will say yes but actually just use a recruiter to get around it and that's a headache later

I taught in Dazhi for a couple years and the centers right around Zhishan MRT tend to keep teachers longer than the Jiannan Road ones. Pay is usually a bit lower but they're upfront about hours and most handle the work permit without drama. Just make sure they're registered as a buxiban rather than a cram school operating under someone else's license, that's where the visa stuff gets messy.
