Jiuwushan Hike?
the side trails off jiuwushan are technically inside yangmingshan national park so you're not supposed to leave the marked route, they do hand out fines occasionally. if you want the same ridge views without the guessing game, the jiantan to jiuwushan main trail is only about 1.5 hrs and the section past the old military post is the best part. bring a headlamp regardless, it gets dark under the canopy way before sunset
Those unmarked branches off Jiuwushan are mostly old farming and logging paths that predate the current trail system. Some of them connect over toward the Jiantan side and spit you out near the trailhead by the Jiuwu Temple, but the overgrown ones usually just dead-end at an abandoned plot. If you want to explore safely, go with someone who's been before and start early, the fog rolls in fast up there after around 3pm and it's easy to lose the path. Stick to the main ridge if you're solo.

the Shilin MRT area near Zhongzheng Rd has a cluster of smaller schools that tend to be pretty stable, but a lot of them want you to do a demo before they'll talk visa. bring your cert and a sample lesson plan, it speeds up teh whole thing. fwiw early May is a good time to apply since some teachers leave before summer and centers are scrambling. one tip: ask upfront whether the work permit is under their own buxiban registration, cos some places near Dazhi run you through a third party and that gets messy.
Shilin MRT area is tricky because the rent is high so a lot of teh centers there run tight margins and cut teacher hours when enrollment dips. if you're set on that area try the lanes off Zhongzheng Rd behind the station, smaller outfits there tend to be owner operated and more upfront about contracts. also ask straight up in the interview whether they've sponsored a foreign teacher before, some will say yes but actually just use a recruiter to get around it and that's a headache later
I taught in Dazhi for a couple years and the centers right around Zhishan MRT tend to keep teachers longer than the Jiannan Road ones. Pay is usually a bit lower but they're upfront about hours and most handle the work permit without drama. Just make sure they're registered as a buxiban rather than a cram school operating under someone else's license, that's where the visa stuff gets messy.
