Going on a Tinder date at one of the mall food courts - any red flags to look out for? 😅

Title. Title.

just watch if they actually eat, like some people pick at food and push it around. that's a bad sign for date energy. also try the one at siam center, top floor by the cinema, it's usually empty and you can hear each other talk. and if they order something super spicy then complain it's spicy, that's on them tbh

The biggest red flag isn't the food court, it's picking the wrong mall. Avoid the tourist-heavy ones like Siam Paragon's basement, it's a zoo on weekends. Go for CentralWorld's 7th floor or EmQuartier's gourmet section, the vibe is way more chill and you can grab a proper dessert after without walking through a crowd. Also, if they suggest MBK, just assume they're not from here or they're testing your patience.

honestly the real red flag is if they suggest splitting a plate of something super messy like grilled pork neck. watch how they handle the napkin situation, if they're wiping their hands on their jeans that's a sign they'll be messy in other ways too. also, mall food courts here have those electronic order kiosks now, if they can't figure out the Thai menu and get annoyed about it, that's a hint about how they'll handle cultural stuff later. pick a spot like Terminal 21's floor 5, the stalls are spread out so you're not elbow to elbow with strangers, and the aircon actually works there.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
