Why is the Lottery drawing not today (16th), but tomorrow on the 17th?

It seems it's drawn on the 16th every other month

yeah the "wan khu" thing is real, it's all about even numbers being lucky for gambling here. thais are superstitious about odd days for money stuff, so they shift the draw to avoid bad luck. the 16th is technically the standard date but if it's an odd day in the lunar calendar they bump it to the next even day, which is why you get the 17th this time. honestly it's pretty common, you'll see the same thing happen with the 1st of the month draws if that day is odd too

yeah your colleagues are right about it being a "wan khu" thing. thai lottery draws are tied to lunar calendar beliefs even though the dates themselves are fixed. the 1st and 16th of every month are the usual draw days but if the 16th falls on an "even day" in the thai lunar sense (wan khu) they bump it to the 17th. "wan khu" basically means a day with an even number in the traditional thai numeral system, which is considered unlucky for gambling so they avoid it. next month it'll prob be back on the 16th since that'll be an odd day again

the superstitious part is real but there's also a practical reason nobody mentioned yet. the government lottery office (glo) draws on the 1st and 16th but if those dates fall on a weekend or public holiday they move it to the next business day. the 16th is a sunday this month so it shifts to monday the 17th. the "even day" thing is a layer on top of that though - thais genuinely believe odd-numbered days are unlucky for money matters so even when it's a weekday they'll still pick the 16th over the 15th. check the old schedule on the glo site archive, you'll see it's been happening for decades

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
