I'm a bit lost here and going through customer service is a nightmare. Has anyone else lost the ability to have a bank account associated with Shopee?

I buy a lot off Shoppe from time to time and have had a bank account associated with my account. I think I have only had 1 refund and I needed to add Shoppe Wallet to get it. That was 3-4 months ago.

Fast forward to today, I had a whopping refund of 47B, but I can't get the refund to work. It says I must use Shopee Wallet, but when I do that, there is a message now that foreigners can't transfer or add a bank account (verified by Shopee).

I assume this all has to do with the anti money laundering legislation laws that came to play on Jan 1st.

So, how can use foreigners get a refund on Shopee if we don't have a bank account associated? Can they not just charge back the card? Seems ones Shoppe Wallet or Shopee Pay is added, that takes away the ability to get a charge back, but I am not sure.

I asked all these questions to customer service and keep getting a run around, so asking here if any foreigners can actually add a bank account to Shopee.

honestly the card chargeback route works but you gotta make sure you never hit 'accept' on the shopee wallet refund in the app. once you do that, they consider it settled and wont reverse it. i learned that the hard way with a 200b refund last month

for the bank account thing, its definitely the amlo rules. i tried adding my kasikorn account last week and got the same foreigner block. what i do now is just keep a small balance in shopee wallet for exactly these tiny refunds, and use it to pay for grab food or topping up my phone. no way around it unless you have a thai partner or friend who can link their account

the wallet trick works but tbh i just started asking them to refund as shopee coins instead. you lose a bit of value but at least its instant and no bank account needed. ive had 47b refunds turn into like 40b in coins but its better than fighting with support for days

for the bank account thing, i think its permanent now. i tried like 5 different banks and got the same error. if you really need the cash out, the only way ive seen work is having a thai friend link their account and transfer to them. not ideal but it works in a pinch

yeah you're right about the anti-money laundering stuff, they tightened everything up around new year. the 47b refund thing is a pain but here's what worked for me - i just let it sit in Shopee Wallet and used it for the next order instead of trying to transfer it out. the wallet balance works fine for paying at 7-Eleven or counter service if you dont want to use it online

for the bank account thing, honestly i gave up trying to link mine after the same message. if you really want the cash back to your card, you have to refuse the Shopee Wallet option and push them to do a card reversal instead. it takes like 3-4 days but it does work, just gotta be persistent with the chat support. mention "card chargeback" specifically and they'll get it sorted

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
