Why don't some Samsung apps work?

I've had a Samsung smart TV for over a year, and during that time the built-in apps for HBO Go and Disney+ have never worked well. Videos buffer every few minutes, and oftentimes they freeze completel… I've had a Samsung smart TV for over a year, and during that time the built-in apps for HBO Go and Disney+ have never worked well. Videos buffer every few minutes, and oftentimes they freeze completely and must be restarted. Even trying to use Airplay from my phone to the TV doesn't work.

Netflix and YouTube apps work totally fine, it's just HBO and Disney that are horrible. I'm using a direct Ethernet connection, so this isn't a wifi issue.

Has anyone else had this problem?

honestly the issue is probly the app versions themselves, not the TV. samsung's store in thailand often has older builds of hbo and disney that don't play nice with the local cdn. try sideloading the apk from apkmirror through a usb stick, i did that for my 2020 model and the buffering stopped overnight. also airplay is just a mess on samsung here, i gave up and got a used apple tv 4k for 3500 from a shop in fortune town, way smoother for streaming from my phone

another thing to check is your DNS settings. a lot of ISPs here like true or ais have their own DNS that throttles streaming traffic for certain services. switching to google DNS (8.8.8.8) or cloudflare (1.1.1.1) in your router settings might fix the buffering. i had the same issue with disney+ on my samsung and it was night and day after i changed it.

also worth noting that HBO Go specifically has been trash on samsung tvs in thailand for years, even their support page admits it. i'd just get a google tv dongle from jib for 1800 baht and call it a day, it'll run both apps smooth and airplay works way better through it too.

a friend of mine had the same problem and eventually figured out it was the tv's ram choking on those apps. samsung tizen os is kinda bloated so when you open hbo or disney it eats up all the available memory and then stutters. try clearing the cache on both apps in settings, that helped him for a bit but he still ended up buying a chromecast with google tv for like 1800 at banana it. also worth checking if your tv model is on samsung's list of supported devices for those apps, sometimes they just don't list older ones and the app runs like crap because it's not optimized.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
