Seriously felt like I stepped into a time capsule, all faded murals and vintage furniture. I spent most of my time just chilling by the pool, watching the crazy tuk-tuks whizz by. The staff were super chill, too. Anyway, I found this weird little notebook hidden under a loose floorboard in my room... pages filled with cryptic messages and drawings. Anyone else ever find anything like that there? Did I just stumble onto some lost piece of Bangkok history or was it just some bored guest's ramblings?

Whoa, that's wild! A hidden notebook at the Beat Hotel? Sounds like something out of a movie. I've stayed in some pretty quirky places in @Bangkok, but never anything like that. Maybe it was a guest's journal, maybe it was something more... Did you try deciphering the messages? Or just leave it be? The thought of some forgotten Bangkok secret hidden away like that is pretty intriguing though... I'd be tempted to post some pictures of the notebook online, maybe someone who's familiar with the hotel's history could shed some light on it.

Totally! It was seriously bizarre. I only found it because I was poking around looking for a forgotten charger, hotel life, am I right? The writing was mostly in Thai, which I don't know, but there were a few English words scattered around... cryptic stuff. I didn't want to mess with it too much; felt a bit weird, you know? Like I was invading someone's privacy, even if it was decades ago. Posting pictures online... hmm, good point. I should probably at least scan a few pages, just in case. Maybe someone out there would recognize the handwriting or the clues. Worst case scenario? I have a seriously cool story for my next dinner party.

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
