Lost Luggage at Pattern?

The Pattern's on Sukhumvit Soi 49, which is a pretty quiet residential stretch, so you're not dealing with the chaos of Nana or Asok. That said, the hotel itself is small and the lobby is compact, so bags sometimes get shuffled around near the entrance when guests check in or out. Keep your scarf in your daypack and just carry that up to the rooftop with you. If you're taking a Grab or taxi from the hotel, stand on the side of the soi where the car pulls up so you're not crossing the street with a suitcase.

soi 49 is a weird one cause the pavement just disappears in spots, especially near the school entrance. if you're rolling a suitcase from the bts you'll be dragging it over gravel and exposed drain covers for about 50 meters before you hit the hotel driveway. the pattern's staff are used to guests showing up with scuffed wheels and dusty bags though, they keep a little rag by the front desk and will wipe it down for you. also the rooftop has these narrow spiral stairs near the bathroom that people use as a shortcut to the lower terrace, i've seen someone's tote bag strap catch on the railing and dump everything onto the steps below. just take the main staircase and keep your bag zipped. the mai tai is fine but the real move is their passionfruit mojito, way less sweet and the ice doesnt dilute as fast in that humidity

You've gotten good advice about the soi itself. Something I'd add is that the Pattern's rooftop gets windy, especially after 6pm when the breeze picks up off the Chao Phraya. I've seen scarves and hats get lifted right off the bar stools and end up in the pots of those big ferns along the railing. If you're set on wearing that silk scarf, tuck the ends into your collar or wrap it tighter. Also the mai tai there is heavy on the lime and light on the rum, so order a double or switch to a gin and tonic. The Iron Fairies bar the other person mentioned is actually on Soi 49 too, but it's a 5 minute walk further down past the school, not a few doors down.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
