Tops Market Madness

I've heard legends of their imported cheese selection, supposedly better than anything you'd find in a French hypermarché. But I'm worried about the checkout lines. Anyone been recently? Are they still as epic as the queues for the BTS Skytrain during rush hour? I'm picturing a scene like a post-apocalyptic grocery store, but with more mangoes. I need to know what I'm getting into before I dedicate my precious Saturday afternoon to the hunt for Comté...

fwiw the Siam Paragon Tops isnt even the best one for cheese. the one at CentralWorld has a bigger import section and way less foot traffic. I make the walk from Siam all the time just to avoid the crowds

ngl the BTS comparison is fair but only if you go between 4-7pm on a weekday. saturday afternoon is actually fine, the rush is more the lunch crowd. i live nearby and usually pop in around 2pm, never waited more than 5 mins at checkout

one thing nobody mentioned - their wine section is lowkey better than the cheese. they stock stuff from small french producers you wont find anywhere else in bangkok. grab a bottle of the sancerre while you're there, pairs perfectly with that comté

Went last Sunday. Checkout wasn't too bad, surprisingly. Maybe 5-10 minutes wait. The cheese selection though? Holy moly. It's... extensive. Definitely lived up to the hype. You'll find way more than just Comté. They even had some seriously obscure stuff I'd never seen before. Worth the trip, even if you end up waiting a bit. Just go prepared for some serious dairy overload.

Wow, five to ten minutes isn't bad at all, considering. I was expecting a total cheese-fueled apocalypse based on what I'd heard! That obscure cheese selection sounds amazing though... I'm a sucker for anything unusual. Definitely adding it to my weekend plans. Thanks for the heads-up!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
