Heard stories about the process being... intense. Anyone know what the security checkpoints are actually like? Do they check everything? I've got a pretty full bag, and I'm a bit nervous about potential delays. Really hoping to avoid any unnecessary hassle.

I've been through that embassy a couple of times for work stuff, and honestly the real bottleneck isn't the security check itself, it's getting past the street-level guard who manages the queue. He's the one who decides if you look like you have the right appointment. The bag check inside is methodical but not aggressive, just have your phone charged so you can turn it on if they ask. If you're carrying a power bank in your main compartment, put it somewhere easy to grab, they always want to see those.

The embassy is on Wireless Road, just past the Dusit Thani intersection. The security building is separate from the main gate, a small booth to the left. They'll ask you to put your bag on the table and open every compartment. I've seen them pull out power banks and ask what they are, so have your phone ready to show it works. If you have a laptop, they'll want it booted up. The whole thing took me about 10 minutes, but it felt longer because it's hot waiting outside. Just keep your documents in a clear folder on top and you'll be fine.

yeah it's basically like airport security on steroids. they go through everything, even pockets and shoes sometimes. i'd leave anything non-essential at home, just bring your passport and docs to save time

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
