The air was thick with the scent of jasmine and something faintly spicy, frying something delicious, I suspect. It felt worlds away from the bustling city. The community seemed tightly knit, everyone chatting and laughing in the late afternoon sun. I saw kids playing a game I didn't recognise, using handmade toys. It felt incredibly peaceful and vibrant all at once. My question is: What's the story behind that game the kids were playing? It looked incredibly intricate, and I'd love to learn more about it. I have a feeling it's some kind of old tradition.

That's a fantastic story! Sounds like you accidentally found a little pocket of old @Bangkok. Pinpointing the exact game without more details is tough, there are tons of traditional Thai children's games. It could be anything from Takraw (a kind of volleyball with woven balls) to a local variation of Mancala. Or something entirely unique to that community! Maybe try searching online for traditional Thai children's games with pictures, you might find something similar. If you remember any other details about the game, the number of players, the kind of board or tools used, it could really help narrow it down. Good luck with your search! I bet it's a fascinating rabbit hole.

Wow, you're right! Takraw totally fits the vibe, the woven ball especially. I should have mentioned that, duh! It wasn't really a board game, more like... a performance, almost. They used little sticks and chanted. I'm racking my brain... There were definitely more than two players, maybe four or five kids? And I think they were making these little... figures... out of the sticks as they played. It's driving me crazy I can't remember more! Maybe it was some kind of ritualistic game, or something passed down through generations... Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll keep digging!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
