If you want something off the usual radar, try the ho mok. It's a steamed fish curry custard wrapped in banana leaves, and Yayoi's version is rich with herbs and a soft, almost mousse-like texture. Most people walk right past it for the fried stuff.

Their khao mun kai is surprisingly good. It's not exactly hidden, but it's not the first thing that pops up when you think "Yayoi." Way better than most places I've tried around town. Simple, but really flavorful. Worth a shot if you're looking for something beyond the usual suspects.

Honestly, skip the mains and order the nam prik kapi set. It's a platter of fresh vegetables, fried fish, and that pungent shrimp paste dip that most tourists never touch. You'll get a real taste of how Thai people actually eat at home, and the contrast of crunchy veg against the funky, spicy sauce is addictive. Just be ready for serious garlic breath.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
