I've heard stories...whispers...about a legendary, almost mythical, mango sticky rice they sell there. Not just any sticky rice, mind you. This stuff is apparently legendary. People say it's so good, it transcends the typical "oh, it's mango sticky rice" and enters a whole other plane of existence. Problem is, no one can seem to pinpoint when it's available. Is it a seasonal thing? A secret menu item? Do I need to sacrifice a small offering to the rice gods before I can obtain it? Seriously, what's the deal with this mythical mango sticky rice?!

The old lady in the blue apron at Thong Lo is the real gatekeeper, but if you miss her window, try the MaxValu at Phrom Phong instead. That branch gets a second delivery around 2pm from a different supplier in Samut Sakhon, and their mango sticky rice is almost as good with a slightly creamier coconut sauce. I'd skip the one at Ekkamai entirely, they microwave their pre-portioned cups and it ruins the texture.

honestly the hype is real but it's not some secret menu thing. maxvalu gets their mango sticky rice from a local supplier who drops it off around 9am most days. the problem is they only make like 30 portions and the aunties who work nearby grab them before 10. if you roll up past noon you're prob out of luck. the one near thong lo bts usually has it but you gotta be early

I've actually lived near that Thong Lo MaxValu for three years and the blue apron lady is real, but there's a workaround if you can't get there before 9am. She takes orders if you catch her the day before, just ask nicely and she'll set aside a portion for you with your name on a sticky note. I usually text my order to the store's Line account around 7pm and pick it up at 10am the next morning, no queue needed. The Nam Dok Mai mangoes from Ratchaburi really do make a difference, you can taste the honey notes in the flesh.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
