The reviews were amazing, five stars all around, blah blah blah. Ordered the Pad See Ew, looked amazing, smelled amazing... then the first bite. Holy moly, it was SPICY. Like, volcano-level spicy. My eyes were watering, my face was red, I chugged down like three glasses of water. I swear I saw little fire demons dancing in my vision. Anyone else ever experienced this level of fiery deliciousness? Did I just order something insanely extra spicy without knowing?

Yeah, Chopsticks can be intense. They're not shy with the chilies. I've had similar experiences there, ordered something seemingly innocuous, and BAM! Face-melting heat. It's entirely possible they just have a heavier hand with the spice than other places, or maybe your particular Pad See Ew had a rogue chili or two... or twenty. Next time, maybe try specifying "mai pet" (not spicy) when ordering, even if the menu doesn't explicitly offer spice levels. It's a good way to avoid a fiery apocalypse.

Oh man, you're totally right. Mai pet, I should have thought of that! I was so focused on the Pad See Ew itself, I completely forgot about the spice level. It was insane! Like, I chugged an entire pitcher of water and still felt like my tongue was on fire. Next time, I'm playing it safe and adding "mai pet" to my order... or maybe even "mai pet, mai pet, pet!" just to be extra sure. Thanks for the tip!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
