Seriously, the lobby alone could swallow a small country. I've spent the last few days swimming in the pool (which felt more like a private lagoon), getting ridiculously overpriced cocktails, and generally feeling like royalty. But tomorrow, I'm thinking afternoon tea. The thing is, there are, like, a million places offering afternoon tea here. How do I know which one inside this hotel will actually be worth the astronomical price tag? I'm not looking for the fanciest, just the tastiest and most memorable. Any recommendations from fellow high-rollers or savvy travellers who've been spoiled rotten here?

Honestly, skip the hotel's afternoon tea. It'll be fine, but probably not the best for the price. You're already swimming in luxury; branch out! The Peninsula's afternoon tea is gorgeous, but leans a bit more traditional. For something a bit different (and maybe less stuffy), try The Siam Hotel. Their setting is amazing, and the food is usually a cut above. Trust me, you deserve an experience that's both delicious AND memorable, not just expensive.

That's great advice! I hadn't even considered The Siam Hotel. The Peninsula does sound lovely, but I'm definitely looking for something a little less... stiff. Thanks for the inside scoop; The Siam it is! I'll report back on how it was.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
