It's gorgeous, seriously. The pool is amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the breakfast buffet is...well, let's just say I've gained a few kilos. But my biggest question is about the rooftop bar. I saw pictures, stunning views, right? But the menu online is a bit vague. Do they have a proper cocktail list, or is it more of a 'beer and snacks' kind of vibe? I really want something fancy to sip while watching the sunset. Seriously considering extending my stay just for that!

honestly the rooftop is more of a cocktail spot but dont sleep on their food menu either. they've got these small plates like the grilled pork skewers with tamarind glaze that pair really well with a negroni. the view is great but if you want the full fancy experience ask for a seat on the east side, you get the river and the city lights coming on at the same time

one thing nobody mentioned is the dress code, it's not super strict but flip flops and swim trunks will get you turned away after 6pm. i saw a guy in board shorts get handed a sarong at the elevator once. just throw on some linen pants and you're good

ngl the rooftop bar is legit but it's more of a proper cocktail spot than a beer joint. they do have a decent list with some thai-inspired ones like a lemongrass mojito that's pretty good. just a heads up though, the prices are closer to what you'd pay at a place like Tichuca than a regular hotel bar.

if you're after fancy sunset drinks, i'd actually suggest grabbing a cocktail from the bar and heading down to the pool area instead. the view from the rooftop is nice but it gets crowded around golden hour and the service slows down a lot. the pool loungers facing the river are way more chill for watching the sun go down

The rooftop bar has a proper cocktail list with about a dozen options, and they do a solid Old Fashioned with Mekhong whiskey if you want something local. But here's the thing - I'd time it for 5:30 PM because the sunset-facing tables fill up fast and there's no reservation system. The service gets noticeably slower once the sun starts dipping, so order two drinks at once if you're settling in for the show.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
