Grab a Grab taxi or use a ride-hailing app, much easier than trying to navigate the streets at night, especially if your Thai's not great. Know your exit strategy before you go in. Have the app open and your hotel address ready.

Don't wander around alone after dark; stick with your group. While most people are just there to have a good time, it's a large venue and things can get a little chaotic. Basic Thai phrases like "Sawasdee" (hello) and "khop khun" (thank you) will go a long way, even if you only know those two. And maybe "chok dee" (good luck) for getting a cab home later. Seriously, pre-planning your escape route is key. Have fun, but be smart about it.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I've heard stories... Definitely seconding the Grab advice; Bangkok traffic is insane, even more so at night. And the exit strategy thing? Genius. I'm picturing myself trying to hail a taxi at 2 AM, completely overwhelmed, and then realizing I don't even know how to SAY my hotel name in Thai. Thanks for the heads-up; that's saved me from a potential disaster. Those basic Thai phrases are a great idea too. I'll definitely cram those in before I go.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
