Anyone know the best way to navigate the sheer size of the place? I'm worried about getting lost and missing appointments, especially considering my limited Thai. Getting around in general, finding specific departments...any insider tips would be massively appreciated!

One trick that saved me was using the food court as a landmark to reorient myself. The basement floor has that big open area with all the stalls, and from there you can see the elevator numbers clearly, so if I got turned around I'd just go down to the basement, find my bearings, and head back up. The Grab food delivery lockers near the main entrance on the ground floor are also a good meeting point if you need to coordinate with someone, they're hard to miss and everyone knows where they are.

You'll get used to the layout faster if you focus on the elevator banks rather than the hallways. There are three main sets of elevators and each one serves specific floors, so check the directory by the elevator doors before you press a button. If you end up on the wrong floor, the staircase landings are usually unlocked and you can cut between the different elevator zones that way. The basement level has a direct walkway to the attached hotel, which is handy if you need a quiet place to rest between appointments without going outside.

honestly the best thing i did was hire a medical concierge service for my first visit there. cost me like 1500 baht for the day and this lady met me at the entrance, knew exactly where my appointments were, handled all the paperwork in thai, and even negotiated a discount on some lab work i needed. totally worth it if ur stressed about navigation or language

also pro tip: the pharmacy on the 1st floor near the main lobby is way faster than the one on the 3rd. no idea why but i waited 45 minutes upstairs and 5 minutes downstairs on different days. grab a coffee from the little cart outside the 1st floor pharmacy while u wait, that guy makes a decent iced latte for like 60 baht

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
