Where can I find acrylic? These are some materials we use in our maker space and looking for an easy way to buy.

khlong thom is good for acrylic but they mostly deal in big sheets, for a school maker space u might want the smaller shops inside Phahurat textile market area, some of them stock acrylic offcuts in A3 sizes. for basswood try the model kit shops in Saphan Lek or order from a hobby distributor like Hobbyland, they ship & it works out cheaper than running around. ply and mdf i'd just call a timber yard in Nonthaburi and have it delivered, saves u the truck rental

the wood shops clustered around Wat Suthat and Bamrung Mueang road are worth a walk, they sell teak and pine offcuts cheap and a few carry thin ply for models. for the maker space stuff specifically id look at the wholesale places in Khlong Bang Luang, they move pallets of mdf and particle board and will sell single sheets if you show up in person. acrylic you can also get from the sign-making supply shops on Pradipat, they keep cast and extruded sheet in stock and cut while you wait. prices are prob 30-40% under HomePro if u buy a few sheets at a time

Basswood is teh one thing you really can't source well in Bangkok at retail. What most maker spaces here do is order from a hobby distributor like HobbyLink or a Chinese seller on Lazada for 1-3mm sheets in bulk, and skip the store hunt entirely.

For ply and MDF, the cabinet shop suppliers around Soi Lat Phrao 101 will sell single sheets and cut on the spot, but they won't invoice a school cleanly. Better bet for a school PO is a proper sawmill, the ones off Phutthamonthon Sai 4 in Thawi Watthana mill to your exact cut list and the per-sheet price drops hard past 10 sheets.

Acrylic cast sheet for lasers, I'd go straight to a fabricator rather than retail. The plastics shops on Soi Pradipat know school purchase orders and will invoice properly, just call ahead since walk-ins get ignored.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
