I'm looking for a Muay Thai gym where you actually partner up with someone and do combinations and some sparring at the end.
Last year when I was in Phuket it was mostly on the bag....3 round pads and fitness BS...I could do this alone lol (besides the pads).
I actually like kickboxing classes way more due to the combinations on partners almost full lesson or partly and rest sparring.
I also prefer to sleep there and possible even eat. Or do you guys say do Airbnb and which one?
for that partner drill & sparring setup you want, check out FA Group in the ratchada area. they run it old school where you're working with a partner almost the whole session, heavy focus on clinch work and live drills before light sparring at the end. none of that fitness pad nonsense
they've got basic rooms for 300-400 baht a night with food included, nothing fancy but you're literally 20 steps from the gym. the neighborhood's got street food stalls and 7/11s within walking distance too
if you want more dutch kickboxing style with the same partner focus, look up kriangkrai near ekkamai. they run it like a fight camp, rooms are 500 with two meals, and the morning session is mostly combo work on pads before partner drills in the afternoon. bit more intense but sounds like what you're after
honestly skip the tourist gyms near Khao San and go to Jitti Gym in the old town area. they do partner drills most of the session and the last 15-20 mins is light sparring if u want it. no fitness BS, just technique and timing work
they have a basic dorm upstairs for 400 baht a night with breakfast included. nothing fancy but the food is solid and u roll straight outta bed to train. airbnb would be more comfortable but more expensive and further away
if u want more kickboxing style then Khunsuek near On Nut is better. same setup with partner combos but they focus more on dutch style combos than traditional muay thai. their on-site rooms are 500 with two meals
Try Sitsongpeenong out near the airport. They do partner drills most of the session and the sparring is optional but encouraged. The dorm setup is 500 baht with meals included. Just know it's a camp vibe, not a hotel.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
