Does anyone know how to change Max (formerly HBO Go) to English?

I can't figure it out and I can't read Thai. I can't figure it out and I can't read Thai.

The Thai version of Max has a quirk where it reads the SIM card region rather than the phone language. If you have a Thai SIM in, it forces Thai. Try turning off mobile data, connecting to a VPN set to the US or Singapore, then open the app with wifi only. Once it loads in English, you can turn mobile data back on and it should stick for that session. I've had to do this every few weeks when it randomly flips back.

honestly the language thing in Max is a mess. i had the same issue and what worked for me was changing my google play/app store region to US and reinstalling. the Thai version just defaults to Thai no matter what u do with the cache thing. fwiw if u have a vpn, switching it to singapore before opening the app also forces english for some reason

ngl the easiest fix is to just sideload the APK from APKMirror instead of dealing with the play store version. the global APK defaults to english and it doesn't care what region your phone is set to. i did this on my samsung and it worked first try, no vpn or cache clearing needed. just make sure u download the right architecture for your phone or it'll crash

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
