Floral arrangement class?

I'm looking for a local class that shows how to make the hanging rearview mirror garland specifically. Or even a stand where they make them. I'm looking for a local class that shows how to make the hanging rearview mirror garland specifically. Or even a stand where they make them.

If you want the actual technique not just the market version, look up วัดเกาะ (Wat Ko) community near Klong Bang Luang. There's an auntie there named Pa Noi who teaches dok mai chan, the folded banana leaf and flower work, and she'll usually do a 2 hour session for around 500 baht if you call ahead. She mostly does funeral wreaths and temple offerings but the small mirror garlands are the same folding method, just miniaturized. Go on a weekday, she's slammed with orders before Buddhist holidays.

The ones you see on taxis are usually called phuang malai, and the small hanging ones are sold at Pak Khlong Talat flower market, especially the stalls along the canal side near the Saphan Phut end. Most vendors there will show you how to loop them if you buy a few, they're not running formal classes but they'll teach you the basic pattern in five minutes. If you want an actual workshop, try Baan Silapin in Thonburi or ask at the community center on Soi Prachathipok, they run occasional sessions on weekends.

Pak Khlong Talat is where you'd find the ready made ones, but for actually learning the technique, some of the older aunties at the On Nut flower stalls do informal teaching if you buy the jasmine and marigold from them first. I'd try there on a weekday morning when it's quiet, weekends are chaos.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
