Underground live music?

I'm headed to Bangkok and we'll be there between 13th and 21st of December. Does anyone have any recommendations for venues with non-mainstream music?

tbh you'll find the best underground stuff around Ekkamai and Thonglor but not the fancy clubs, more the back soi spots. There's a place called The Overstay off Sukhumvit 26 that does punk and metal nights pretty regularly, cover was like 200 baht last time. If you're into reggae and dancehall check out Jam Bar near Khao San but go late around midnight when the local crew shows up.

honestly if you're into punk and metal you gotta hit up The Rock Pub near Ratchathewi, it's been around forever and has that proper dive energy, shows usually start around 9pm and drinks are cheap like 100 baht for a beer. for ska and reggae there's a spot called Tawandang on Rama 3 that does live bands every night, more of a Thai crowd but they play everything from ska to dancehall, cover is around 300 baht with a drink included. december 13-21 should be good timing since there's usually some end of year shows popping up

Check out Immortal Bar near On Nut, it's this tiny dive with killer metal and punk shows most weekends. Also Speaker Box in Chinatown has weird electronica and experimental stuff that fits your vibe.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
