Recommendations for the best 'Street food' style Pad Thai around Bangkok? Im talking your 50-100b per dish kinda style.. I'm based near Sukhumvit 62..

fwiw Thipsamai's good but the queue can be brutal, especially weekends. If you're near Sukhumvit 62 just hop on the BTS to On Nut and walk to the little soi behind Big C. There's a lady there called Mae Somkid who's been making pad thai for like 30 years, 60b a plate, the sauce is a bit sweeter than most but she doesn't skimp on the dried shrimp. It's literally just a cart with four plastic stools under a blue awning, no sign in English but you'll see the line of locals around 6pm. She's there every day except Wednesdays.

honestly just go to Thipsamai in Charoen Krung if you want the classic street pad thai experience, it's like 100-120b now but close enough. yeah it's a bit touristy but the quality is consistent and they've been doing it for decades. take the BTS to Saphan Taksin then a short taxi or walk from there.

if you want something closer to you, there's a stall called Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu at the Ekkamai BTS end of Sukhumvit 63, it's like 80b and they cook it over charcoal which gives it that smoky taste. just walk out of Ekkamai exit 2 and it's in the little soi next to the 7-Eleven, you'll see the smoke.

both places have actual seats and menus so no wandering around sweating, you just sit and point at what u want

If you're on Sukhumvit 62 you're not far from Bearing BTS, and there's a spot at the Soi Bearing 39 intersection that does a solid 60 baht pad thai. It's a cart right outside the Family Mart, run by an older couple who've been there for years. They use thin rice noodles and give you a wedge of lime with raw bean sprouts on the side, proper old-school style. No English sign, but you'll see the wok fire and a few plastic chairs set up on the pavement.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
