I used to go to the Black Swan near Asok for the Bangers & Mash but they changed the bangers and it's no good now. I need a new place for that dish as well.

For the cottage pie, try The Londoner on Sukhumvit 33. Theirs is solid and hasn't changed in years, plus they do a decent Sunday roast too if you're ever in the mood. It's about a ten minute walk from Phrom Phong BTS.

For bangers and mash, I'd go to The Robin Hood on Sukhumvit 33/1, just off the main road near Soi 33. They've kept the same sausages from a proper British supplier as far as I know, and the mash is buttery enough to make up for what Black Swan lost.

Honestly for bangers and mash you could try The Old English on Soi 11, it's a bit tucked away but their sausages are proper thick and the gravy's got that rich dark beer flavor. For cottage pie I'd actually check out The British Club down Silom, it's member-ish but they let tourists in and their shepherds pie is legit comfort food, proper mince and mashed potato on top.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
