How do YOU pay from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Sukhumvit by Public Taxi?

Done that journey multiple times and agree a price to 600 before I get it.

Keep seeing it should be metered and be 250 ??!!

What does everyone else pay? Not Grab, but the public taxis.

honestly 600 is way too much for that route unless it's peak hour traffic or you're going deep into sukhumvit like past on nut. the meter from the airport should run you around 250-350 depending on timing and route, plus 50 baht airport surcharge and maybe 70-100 tolls if they take the expressway

just walk down to the public taxi queue on the ground floor, grab a ticket from the machine, and tell the driver "meter, please" right when you get in. if they refuse just wait for the next one, there's always another cab in 2 minutes

i never pre-agree a price from that queue and i've done it maybe 30 times. last time i took one to phrom phong it was 290 on the meter plus tolls, so around 380 total. your guy is charging you double what it should be

ngl i always just grab the AOT limousine bus for like 60 baht to phaya thai and then hop on the bts from there. works out way cheaper and you skip all the meter drama. but if you really want a taxi, the real trick is walking past the official queue line to the very end where the drivers are waiting for long hauls - they'll take a short sukumvit run for like 300-400 just to get moving. the official queue drivers are the ones who try to gouge you cause they've been sitting there for 20 minutes

yeah 600 is way too much unless you're going deep like past ekkamai during rush hour. i usually pay around 350-400 total with meter + tolls + airport fee to asok area.

the trick is to skip the taxi queue on the ground floor and go up to the departures level instead. cabs dropping people off will grab you on the way out and they're usually more willing to meter since they're already there. i've gotten it for 300 flat that way before, no tolls if they know the back roads.

also if you're landing late like after 10pm the meter rate drops a bit cause traffic's dead. your guy is just padding his pocket by 200 baht minimum

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
