Where can I showcase my independent films in Bangkok?

Hi! I'm a filmmaker and was wondering if anyone knows an indie cinema where I can show my work Hi! I'm a filmmaker and was wondering if anyone knows an indie cinema where I can show my work

honestly, House Rama 9 is your best bet for a proper indie screening. they do open calls for short films sometimes, plus the crowd there actually gets experimental stuff. if you want something more laidback, check out the rooftop screenings at Doc Club, they've hosted local filmmakers before and the vibe is way more chill than a traditional theater.

also don't sleep on the film festivals around town, like the Bangkok Indie Film Fest. they take submissions from locals all the time, and it's a solid way to get your work in front of actual distributors instead of just friends. if you're on a budget, some cafes like Studio Lam do occasional projector nights, but you'd have to bring your own gear and hustle for an audience.

You could try talking to the folks at the Thai Film Archive in Salaya. They have a proper cinema and regularly host retrospectives and independent showcases, and they're usually open to programming work from local directors if you reach out with a clear concept. It's a bit of a trip out of central Bangkok, but the screening room is top notch and the audience is genuinely film literate.

Another angle is the basement space at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, they do artist-run screening nights and have supported first time filmmakers before. It's less about box office and more about community, so you can get honest feedback and build connections with other makers. Just expect a smaller crowd than a commercial venue, that's part of the charm.

oh another one, the Hive in Thonglor does these sporadic underground screening nights, more of a party vibe but they take submissions if u slide into their DMs. also weirdly enough, some art galleries like Tang Contemporary have done short film loops in their back rooms, might be worth pitching there even if it's not a cinema per se.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
