Best area to live in Bangkok with a 3 kg dog?

I've been living in Ho Chi Minh City for almost a year and I would like to try moving to and living in Thailand for my first time next month.

I briefly visited Bangkok for my first time a few months ago and only visited one park during that trip (the park with the huge lizards everywhere). I remember that park said no dogs allowed.

Like Ho Chi Minh City does, I'm sure there are parts of Bangkok that are more tolerating and maybe even welcoming for dogs. What are those areas?

Ideally, it would:

Be an apartment/condo that allows dogs and I don't have to hide my dog in my backpack every time I go up/down the elevator.

Has a park that I could walk my dog daily at

Has a good gym in the area I could go to daily.

Any suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated ❤️

yeah that park with the monitor lizards is Lumpini and you're right, no dogs allowed there. but Bangkok actually has a ton of dog-friendly spots if you pick the right area.

for what you're describing, check out Ekkamai or Thonglor. lots of condos there are cool with pets, especially the newer ones. i know a few like The Base Park East or Rhythm Ekkamai that have dog policies and decent gyms. you'll see people walking their dogs around the soi streets no problem.

there's Benjakitti Park nearby which is huge and allows dogs on a leash. it's right by Asoke but the Ekkamai side is walkable or a short bike ride. the park has a nice lake loop and you'll see plenty of other dog owners there in the mornings.

for gyms, Ekkamai has Fitness First and some boutique spots like We Fitness. honestly the condo gyms in those newer buildings are pretty solid too if you don't need classes.

just avoid the super central Sathorn/Silom area for dog walking, too much traffic and not enough green space. Ekkamai-Thonglor is your sweet spot.

You were at Lumpini Park, and yeah, that one's a no-go for dogs. But Benjakitti Park, which is just a bit north near Asoke, has a dedicated dog run area and allows leashed dogs on the main paths. It's a solid option for daily walks.

For condos, check out the newer buildings along Sukhumvit 71 or around On Nut. Places like T77 or the Aspire chain are known for being pet friendly and usually have decent gyms. On Nut also keeps your rent lower than Thonglor while still getting you to Benjakitti in under 15 minutes by Grab.

One thing to keep in mind is that some buildings only allow dogs under 5kg or limit you to one pet per unit, so read the fine print before you sign anything. The area also has a few local gyms like Muscle Factory if the condo gym doesn't cut it.

Benjakitti Park is your best bet for daily dog walks, and it's worth noting they have a dedicated dog run area now, not just the main paths. For condos, look at the newer builds along Sukhumvit 71 or over in On Nut, places like T77 or the Aspire chain are known for being pet friendly and have decent gyms. On Nut also has a better price point than Thonglor and you can still get to Benjakitti in under 15 minutes by Grab. The biggest thing is checking the condo's pet policy before you sign, some buildings only allow dogs under 5kg or have a limit of one per unit.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
