honestly for a 2am kickoff your best bet is any of the soi 11 bars like the tilt or the royal oak, they're used to staying open late for the farang crowd. just call ahead and ask if they'll put the match on, sometimes they're more focused on the live music until it dies down around 3am. the beer's a bit pricier there, like 150 baht for a singha, but the street food vendors on the corner are solid if u get hungry

if ur on the other side of the river, try the old english pub on charoen krung near saphan taksin. they're open till 4am most nights and the owner's a big football fan, so he'll keep the match on as long as the crowd stays. bit of a walk from the bts but the thai food cart outside does great pad see ew at 3am

most sports bars in bangkok close around 1 or 2am but there's a few that stay open later. try the sportsman on sukhumvit soi 13, they're known for showing late night football and the staff are used to jet lagged tourists. they've got a few screens and the beer's cheap, like 100 baht for a singha. just double check they're showing ur specific match when u get there, sometimes they switch to ufc or something random

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
