Can we start a thread of everyone's all time fave restaurants/cafe/ stalls? Could be any part of Bangkok and type of store as long as it's your go to place!
I keep going back to Jeh O in Samyan, but not for the famous mama noodles. The tom yum seafood soup there is the real draw for me, it's got that perfect balance of sour and spicy without being overwhelmingly sweet like some places. They're open late too, which is handy when you're craving something proper after midnight on Charoen Krung. Just be prepared to queue for at least 20 minutes even on a weekday.
There's a spot in Ari that doesn't get enough attention called Baan Suan Sathon. It's actually a converted house with a big garden and they do this northern Thai style pork belly with a dipping sauce that's so good I've started going just for that. The owners are usually around and they'll tell you about the herbs they're using that day. It's a bit out of the way from the main Ari strip, tucked down Soi Ari 2.
mate this gets asked every damn week. just go to khao gaeng jay sorn in sam yot for the crab curry, it's better than half the hyped lists i see online. no aircon no fuss, just proper food

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
