Toy stores in Bangkok?

I was wondering if there are any good toy stores (action figure, statues) in Bangkok? Not talking about kids' toys and games but more of collectibles, statues and action figures for grown ups. if you're willing to travel a bit, there's a little shop called "the toy vault" on sukhumvit soi 33/1, tucked inside a small soi soi. they mostly do pre-orders for upcoming releases but sometimes have old stock from conventions like thailand toy expo. the owner's a collector himself so he's chill about letting you inspect stuff before buying, just don't expect any discounts

another option is the "anime plaza" at seacon square, not as big as mbk but they focus on japanese imports like kaiyodo and good smile company stuff. prices are marked up maybe 10-15% compared to japan but you avoid the shipping hassle and customs drama

honestly MBK Center is your best bet for action figures and statues. 4th floor has a bunch of small shops selling imported stuff from japan and the US, prices are negotiable if you buy more than one. just be ready to bargain a bit, some shops start high if they think you're a tourist

if you want more high-end stuff, check out Megabangna's toy zone near the food court. they have a shop called Toy R Us that carries Hot Toys and Sideshow collectibles, but it's full retail price so no haggling there. also CentralWorld has a section on the 6th floor with some decent statues but it's mostly the same stuff you'd find anywhere

there's a small shop called "hobby japan" on the 3rd floor of pantip plaza that not many people talk about. they specialize in limited run stuff like bandai tamashii nations and some older marvel legends that are hard to find elsewhere. prices are a bit higher than mbk but they take credit cards and will hold items for you if you're coming back later in the day

if you're into diecast cars and military models, the basement of central ladprao has a shop called "model land" that's been there for years. they have a weird mix of vintage hot wheels and some pretty detailed 1/6 scale figures from obscure brands, the owner is an older guy who speaks decent english and will tell you stories about each piece if you ask

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
