Bangkok is chaos. I know that. Bangkok is traffic. I know that, too.

But after just getting back from a trip to Tokyo, the chaos of the traffic outside my condo here in Bangkok is starting to grate on me.

I know I live in an amazingly congested part of the city (Asoke), but my assumption was that in order to avoid the chaos, you'd have to go so far away that you wouldn't feel like you're in the city; you would need your own vehicle, would be no high-rise condos, cutoff from transportation, etc.

Is that true? Are there places that still feel like being in the city, but with moderate amounts of traffic and chaos and grime?

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
