if you're near ari, there's a small studio called stitch lab behind the ari soi 2 market. the owner does one-off private sessions, no package required. she's more into experimental draping and upcycling than strict pattern work, which is fun if you want to play around with design instead of just straight seams. think she charges 800 for two hours but you can usually negotiate if you bring your own fabric. also, the fabric market at phahurat, not the touristy side but the narrow lanes off the main road, has a few older tailors who'll let u watch them work for a small tip and explain their machine setups. not formal teaching but you'll pick up way more about tension and presser feet than any course

try looking at chula soi 5 area, there's a bunch of small dressmaking shops tucked between the dorms and food stalls. one lady near the 7-11 does casual hourly sessions on her home machine, she's not listed anywhere online but she's been doing it for years for uni students. she's big on getting the basics down like bobbins and stitch length before touching anything fancy, which honestly saved me a lot of headache. also the bangkok design center in the emporium has a resource library where u can book a machine for like 50 baht an hour, not lessons but u can practice alone and ask the staff for tips, they're usually chill if it's not busy. for private tutors who travel, facebook groups are hit or miss but i found mine through a fabric shop owner at pak khlong talat, she knew a retired seamstress who does home visits for 700 baht, she'll bring her own tools and work with whatever ur machine can do. just ask around the fabric stalls, the older sellers always know someone.

check out bangkok fashion society on fb, they have a list of private tutors who come to your place. i took a few sessions with a woman named nok who works out of her studio near on nut bts, she charges around 500 baht per hour and is super flexible with scheduling. she focuses on pattern cutting and machine basics rather than full garment construction which might be better if you're short on time

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
