How Can a Teenager in Thailand Recieve Money from Om 0overseas?

My half Thai/Half American daughter is 16 and is very artistic. She has her own KBank account and wants to do art commissions to make some extra money in her free time.

However, as she's mostly English speaking, most of her customers are overseas. She needs some way to receive money in her Thai bank account. Paypal would be perfect but they're super strict now and you have to be Thai and over 20 years old to have an account. These are small amounts of money (like $15usd) so wire transfers are out of the question.

I know people will suggest having mommy set up a paypal account. Really trying to avoid money coming to the wrong account and having my daughter pester my wife constantly to take out cash but we'll cross that bridge if we have to.

Anybody have any ideas on apps or services she could use to receive small amounts of money from overseas?

wise is prob your best bet for small amounts tbh, the fees are pretty reasonable for $15. you could also look into skrill or payoneer, i've seen some freelancers use those here and they let you withdraw straight to kbank. just check the minimum withdrawal amounts cause some apps have annoying thresholds.

another option nobody's mentioned yet is crypto wallets like binance or bitkub, she could have clients send stablecoins and convert to thb in her account. sounds complicated but it's actually pretty smooth once you set it up, and the fees are basically nothing for small amounts. just gotta teach her how exchange rates work so she doesnt lose money on conversion.

The simplest option I haven't seen mentioned is Western Union. Your daughter can pick up cash at any branch with just the MTCN number and her ID card or passport. For $15 the fee is around 80-100 baht from the sender's side, nothing on her end. She just needs to know the sender's full name as it appears on their ID.

Another thing that works surprisingly well is having clients send through PromptPay using a Thai phone number. Some international banks support this now, but it depends on the sender's bank. If they have a Thai bank app or use SCB Easy, they can scan her QR code from anywhere. You'd need to test it with one client first to see if their bank allows cross-border PromptPay.

One more option is gift cards. She could ask clients to buy her digital gift cards from Amazon or Steam through services like TnG or eGifter, then she can sell those on Facebook groups dedicated to gift card exchange. There are Thai groups where people buy Amazon gift cards at 95% of face value, so she'd lose 5% but it's instant cash in her hand with no age restrictions.

honestly, the simplest workaround is having your wife set up a wise account. your daughter can get the transfer directly into her kbank with just a name and account number, no age limit on receiving. the fees are tiny for $15, like 50 baht or less.

if you want her to feel fully independent, get her a true money wallet or a rabbit line pay account. some international clients can send through those apps if they have the app too, and she can cash out at any 7-eleven. not ideal for everyone but worth mentioning.

the paypal thing is annoying but honestly your wife's account with a dedicated note on each payment ("art commission for [daughter's name]") works fine. just have your daughter keep a spreadsheet so nobody gets confused about whose money is whose

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
