Hi,

We're ETF Insider a fintech startup specializing in data viz working remotely from Bangkok.

Anyone in the industry wants to grab a beer together and talk about fintech startups? We're a bunch of data scientists and devs, but we'd really like to chat and network with creatives, UI/UX, marketers, ect..

let us know If you're in the neighborhood and want to throw some ideas around :)

yeah there's a decent little scene forming around sukhumvit soi 11 actually. a few of the coworking spaces there host casual fintech hangouts every now and then. the haven bar on that soi has a rooftop that's good for talking shop without it being too loud. if you're more into the creative crowd you might wanna check out the jam factory on weekends, it's a bit further out but the vibe is completely different. honest beer is like 180 baht there so it's not a wallet killer either

honestly you should hit up the fintech meetup group on meetup.com that meets at hubba on ekkamai. they get a mix of devs and creatives so it might be closer to what you're looking for. also the old town area around charoen krung has some quiet bars where people actually talk instead of shouting over edm. try teens of thailand on a weekday evening, the owners are cool with people hanging out with laptops till late.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
