How do you wash your white shirts?

I even sent my white shirts to the laundry service, expecting better results, but they came back the same.

Does anyone know of a laundry service that specializes in white shirts, maybe with hand washing or a different method? I also noticed some DIY laundry spots on the street with large washing machines. Are those better than the ones we have in our condo? They seem bigger, possibly industrial-type.

coin ops wont fix collar grime tbh, the machines spin hard but the detergent is basic. what actually changed things for me was switching to a liquid detergent with enzymes & doing a pre treat with a bar of ตราหงส์ (hong soap) on the collar while its still dry, rub it in then let it sit 10 min before it goes in.

for a real service, try the small Chinese-owned shops in yaowarat or talat noi, they hand scrub collars as standard & charge like 15 to 25 per shirt, cheaper than the sukhumvit ones & they actually know white fabric. ask for ซักมือ not ซักเครื่อง

The collar and underarm yellowing is usually sebum and deodorant buildup, not dirt, so a normal cycle in a condo machine barely touches it. What works for me is a soak in oxygen bleach (the powder kind, not chlorine) with warm water for a couple hours before washing, then a paste of baking soda and dish soap rubbed into the collar with an old toothbrush. For the street shops, look for ones that advertise "ซักแห้ง" (dry clean) rather than the coin-op machines; the coin laundries on Sukhumvit soi 22 and around Phra Khanong use the same detergent you'd buy yourself, just bigger drums. If you want proper hand washing, most mom-and-pop laundry shops in older neighborhoods will do it for around 20 to 30 baht per shirt if you ask specifically, but you have to point at the collar and say "ขัดคอ" so they scrub it.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
