Dreadlock maintenance?

Hey all. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to get dreads maintained? Id rather go somewhere trusted. Thanks in advance :) Hey all. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to get dreads maintained? Id rather go somewhere trusted. Thanks in advance :)

There's also a small place on Phra Athit Road, near the corner with Soi Chana Songkhram, that a few people I know swear by. The woman who runs it learned from her mother and mostly does locks and braids for the backpacker crowd, so she's quick and doesn't overcharge, usually 600 baht flat. One thing worth knowing is she only takes walk-ins before 3pm, after that it's appointment only and she rarely answers her phone, so just show up early.

If you're around Sukhumvit, there's a Rasta-run spot tucked down a side alley off Soi 22 near the Raja Mansion end, does solid root work and tightening. I'd call ahead though, they get booked up on weekends and the guy sometimes closes early if it's slow. Expect around 700 to 1000 baht, more if your roots have gone wild.

honestly the expat hair crowd mostly goes to Khao San area for this. there's a couple of stalls around Soi Rambuttri that do dread maintenance, one run by a Thai guy who's had his own locks for like 20 years. cheaper than the salons in Thonglor too, think 500 to 800 baht depending on how much work teh roots need.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
